New Solar Battery Installation Compliance Requirements in 2026
With residential battery installations increasing across Australia, the Clean Energy Regulator has strengthened compliance and documentation requirements for solar battery installers.
From 1 March 2026, additional photographic evidence requirements were introduced for installations participating in the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme.
These requirements aim to improve installation safety, compliance with Australian Standards and the quality of evidence provided by installers.
What do installers need to know?
Installers must capture appropriate geotagged and timestamped photographic evidence, including critical safety labelling on:
- Battery systems and associated equipment.
- Meter boxes and switchboards.
- Relevant shutdown procedures and warning labels.
Installers must also meet applicable on-site verification requirements, including photographs taken during different installation stages.
Failure to provide compliant evidence can result in delays or rejection of Small-scale Technology Certificate (STC) claims.
Why is this important?
As battery installations become more common, electricians need to understand not only the installation process but also the importance of testing, commissioning, safety labelling and compliance documentation.
